The National Mask and Warwagira Festival in Kokopo, East New Britain, is built around the mask cultures of New Britain and the islands: the Tolai tubuan and dukduk, the Baining fire dancers who walk through the coals at night, and masks from the Sepik and further afield. It opens at dawn with the Kinavai, when the masked figures arrive by canoe from the sea.
