The Frangipani Festival marks the anniversary of the September 1994 eruptions that buried much of Rabaul, and celebrates the town's rebuilding since. It is held in Rabaul itself each September with a float parade, market stalls, cultural performances and a fire dance, in a town still living beside an active volcano.
