The Goroka Show is the largest gathering of sing-sing groups in Papua New Guinea, held on the Goroka showground in the Eastern Highlands over the Independence weekend in September. It began in 1957 as a way of bringing the highland tribes together peacefully, and today more than a hundred groups in full bilas — feathers, shells, paint and wigs — dance and drum across the ground at once.
