The National Kenu and Kundu Festival fills Alotau's harbour in Milne Bay with traditional canoes each November: war canoes, sailing canoes and racing canoes paddled to the beat of the kundu drum. Groups come from the islands of Milne Bay, and the festival is as much about the canoe-building and dancing cultures as the races.
