The Saruwaged Range on the Huon Peninsula is some of Papua New Guinea's least explored high ground, with Mount Sarawaget its 4,121 m high point. A traverse takes around ten days, reached by light aircraft into a mountain airstrip, climbing from village gardens through forest onto alpine grassland that few outsiders have crossed.
